By far the most glamorous seaside resort in the Vendée! Les Sables offers a vast and clean beach, on one side and on the other is the busy fishing port where good restaurants are plentiful, and nestled between these two areas are narrow streets, surprisingly hilly, gull of old houses and lovely shops. There is a taxi boat which links the port of Les Sables and the picturesque former fishing village of La Chaume. Les Sables is also the point of departure for the world famous ‘Vendée Globe’ yachting around the world.

The Vendée Globle, the only race of its kind in the world
The port of Olona (Sables d’Olonne) hits the headlines every four years as the start and finish of the single-handed, non-stop, round-the-world sailing race which requires competitors to cross the heart of the three great oceans (Atlantic, Indian and Pacific) braving conditions as diverse as they are dangerous, in order to complete a perfect circumnavigation of the globe. The event has given rise to some heroic exploits by competitors including many British, one we remember most that made the UK news, Ellen MacArthur. The next departure for those courageous yachtspersons will be on 10 November 2012.
Should you like to join the excitement of seeing off these courageous sailors, book your gite or B&B now at domaine du revetison.
